I’ve been working on the Brown supplement, and my answer to “Why Brown?” is about 450 words, and it says that you’re limited to the space below, but the space is tiny! Even if I cut out a few things, I don’t think I could sufficiently answer the question in the space given without being generic. How long is everyone else’s answer to that question?

1000 characters is 1000 characters.

Usually it’s a good thing for you to shorten your message: it forces you to come out with the true essence of your piece, in a high-impact way.

I had the same problem; my why Brown was twice the size it should have been. I nickel and dimed it, replacing one word here, rewording another sentence there, and i narrowly made it.

though the commonapp’s character count is *****ed up.

Thanks for the help guys! I made a few(okay a lot) of edits and I got it down to exactly 1000 characters haha. The way I see it, it’s better to have too much to say rather than too little. I guess I just really want to go to Brown =].
