Supplement-Short Responses

There are two short responses on the Brown Supplement. They read:
1.Tell us about the academic areas that interest you most and your reasons for applying to Brown.
2.How did you become interested in Brown, e.g., college counselor, undergraduate, relative, web site?

My question is about the word limits, since I’ve seen conflicting advice on several other threads about essay lengths. The max for number 1 is 1600 words, and the max for number 2 is 900 words. However, is that just an arbitrary number, and they expect you to write an essay much shorter than that? I ask mostly because the actual essay question on the supplement is only 500 words max.

What length would you suggest for the two short responses?
Thanks a lot.

You are mistaken, the max amounts on the supplement are 900 and 1600 characters, which is far less than 900 and 1600 words.

I don't think they're looking for a longwinded response to #2

Ex: My friend told me about Brown's English program and I then learned about the University from the website.

yeah im not sure about what to put for how i got interested....i mean i obviously knew the school due to its prestige...but i researched combined medical programs and brown's PLME seemed amazing...so do i just say online research got me interested, but make it more flowery? lol

thanks, virtuoso, my mistake.
i guess if you focus on the big picture long enough, you start to forget the details.
