Hi, my daughter is interested to attend the summer camp in Linden Hall, an all-girl boarding school in PA. Since we are not in the US, I am not quite sure if it is safe, and if it has the reputation to offer high quality eduation. I just want to know if it is something worth doing as it is not cheap anyway. Any comments about the school are welcome. Thanks!

I have been to the campus, but I don’t know anything about the academics. If I had to guess, I would say they are average for boarding school.

The campus is in the quaint Pa town of Lititz, which is a pennsylvania dutch (mennonite and amish farming) town and I would imagine it is very safe. The town has an icecream store, a 200 year old pretzel factory and an old chocolate factory (Wilbur) so it gets some tourists who are touring Lancaster county.

The school is very horse focussed and also it starts at 7th grade which is less common.

I wish I could help you more.

I do not think the school is top notch academically, but it does have an excellent riding program. The town is a charming, small Pennsylvania town, perfectly safe.
If you want stronger academics and an all girl boarding school environment, I would suggest looking at Miss Porter’s, Emma Willard, Westover, and perhaps Maderia. Maderia has its own on campus riding program.
I am not sure if any of these schools have summer programs that would work for your daughter.
Good luck.

Thanks for the information. They are very helpful to me. Actually I did look for some other all-girls boarding schools, but seems my choice is quite limited as most girl schools offer coed program in the summer. I would prefer all girs enviroment, maybe I am a little bit over concerned…

I’m pretty sure that Emma Willard’s camp is all girls, if you want to take a look there, too. I did a camp there one summer and it was great, beautiful campus.

I think Miss Porter’s summer program is all girls also. One is a leadership program for girls.

Some of the above writers have posted very incorrect impressions of the academic program at Linden Hall. With average SAT scores over 1800, 100% college placement for its graduates, and an average score of 4.0 on Advanced Placement exams, the academic program at Linden Hall is one of the strongest of all the girls boarding schools in the United States. Despite the high demand for admission, the average class size is still kept in the 10-11 range, thereby ensuring that students will receive a great deal of individual attention.

Stoneleigh Burnham is an all girls school with a strong riding program that begins in 7th grade that also gets painted with the “its a girls school therefore the academics are week” paint brush. Where as the statistical data does not back it up.

hey do not trust infos from the “Boardingschool review” website about Linden Hall. I had visited that school personally, but what the school says and what it really is was/is a total difference. They have some good students too but first of all, if your daughter is not a fluent English speaker, she might not be able to make American friends because they have their own group things. Also, at least 2/3 of upperschool level are from China. I am not saying that having internationals is bad; it is just too many and the school tends not to say it because the school fears that it might detract students and give the school less money. Seriously, if you really care about your daughter, just find a school other than Linden Hall.

Is that really true? what I heard from students and parents is different from your account. Well maybe thats because you work there.
