Lindner Business Honors?

Yes, I did see somewhere on their site that after 1-year they can apply to transfer. The CoE is strictly Cincinnatus scholarship money. We will have to see how this plays out and, with honors incentives if it makes sense. There are requirements to stay in the program, too. Everyone stay in touch!

When I look at other posts, Cincinnatus money is usually 2-3 thousand per year? Is that what you are estimating?
Also, totally agree about offering after the interview process.
It seems they already received acceptance into the honors program; this visit may be less of an interview and more of a question and answer session.

I got a slightly different answer than @BreakfastClub1 posted in #17 when I emailed. I asked if my son would be interviewing for one specific program, or for all three at the same time. The response was: “Your son is interviewing for the Honors Programs at the Lindner College of Business. If your son is selected for Honors he will be placed in one of our three honors programs (Lindner Honors-PLUS, Kolodzik Business Scholars or Circle of Excellence). The team of those interviewing will make that decision when all our interviews are complete.”

@gclsports Did your son’s email invitation specifically state COE, KBS, or LHP +?

I have read elsewhere that UC’s philosophy is keep tuition (relatively) low for everyone, offer limited aid, and give the students a chance to make money for school in the abundant co-ops.

@gclsports Wow, I’m so confused! The email I received from a rep of the business school said that student’s would only be considered for the indicated program. With that said, both my son and husband who were there got the impression that at a minimum everyone there was going to be offered CoE but, it could be higher. Perhaps everyone gets CoE and if someone “shines” or seems to fit in the other programs, they will offer it? I would assume most of the students have the similar scores and meeting/interviewing helps determine the program. Did your son’s email state he was interviewing for CoE, like ours or something else?

@CWAE182025 It said he was being invited to interview “for Lindner Business Honors” and referenced all three programs. It confused me too, because the FAQ said the student was interviewing for whatever one of the programs the invite specified, consistent with what @breakfastclub1 posted, but my sons invite did not indicate just one specific program of the three. I’m still confused.

@gclsports I think what this all means is a select group of students are competing for KBS and LHP+, likely your son. From that pool, they will select for those tier programs and the rest will be lumped with the COE.

@gclsports Do you mind letting us know your son’s stats? Just curious about what it takes to get an invite to the top two programs?

@cwae182025 and @BasicOhioParent I still tend to think they are all being considered for all three programs. My son has pretty good stats, but I am sure there are others with better stats in this pool. 32 ACT (single sitting), 1470 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, rank 5/220. Where he might have an edge is that he has a ton of somewhat unique leadership and civic engagement ECs. But then again, I am sure others in the pool have leadership and civic engagement ECs, so … . I’m just going to wait and see what happens before I get my hopes up that he would be selected for the top tiers of Lindner Honors. He interviews next week. Good luck to everyone!

@gclsports Good luck to your son. What other schools is he considering?

@gclsports just curious, were you going to the makeup day for those who could not make it to last Saturday’s interview session? Or maybe, your interview session is specifically for those being looked at for the upper level programs. I believe that @CWAE182025 has their interview scheduled on 2/12. When are you scheduled?

@basicparent S18 applied to a bunch of schools. He’s in at OSU, Miami, Villanova, South Carolina, Dayton, Fordham, Richmond, and Indiana, and is waiting for admissions decisions from a few more. Much of where he goes will depend on financial aid packages, and we are still waiting for most of those.

@breakfastclub1 I don’t remember seeing anything that said that was a makeup day, but I could have missed something. We chose from the dates that came up when we clicked the scheduling link and picked 2/6 because it was the only allotted date that still had openings in the afternoon.

Interesting how many of our children’s schools are similar on this link. My son is DA to business schools at Miami, OSU, Indiana, Penn State, Kentucky & Cincy. @gclsports When we signed up for our interview, the only date allowed for sign up was January 28th. I believe they have a set schedule and have already pre-determined the kids into their honors program. Perhaps the kids in your session are for the upper two levels.

@gclsports We could not attend the date listed on the email. The makeup day was 2/12. We were not offered 2/6. I really think your son is interviewing for KBS and LHP+. Congratulations and keep us posted!

True. My son is also admitted at Miami, Ohio State, Dayton, Xavier and Butler. The final financial aid packages will be significant in making a decision, but my son also likes the idea of being able to co-op and make some money for school at UC.

I don’t know very many people in the corporate world, but I did speak with an acquaintance who was an HR exec at a Cincinnati-area Fortune 100 corporation in the not-too-distant past, and still works as an exec in another department at that corporation. She told me that they hire from all these schools, and that there is not a separate track for graduates of some schools vs. others. In other words, there’s not a fast track for grads of Miami and OSU and a slow lane for grads of UC. Advancement is based on what you do after you’re hired, not where you went to school. She had a favorable view of UC’s grads for their experience gained from co-ops. On the other hand, she singled out Miami among the others on my son’s list, saying she’d think twice before turning down a direct admit to Farmer.

I’m offering this FWIW.

My son is also direct admit to many of these schools. We have these same questions, particularly Indiana. We wonder if this school is worth the extra OOS tuition when comparing to Miami / OSU/UC Honors.

Any thoughts?

My S is going back to the schools I listed for the admitted student days. He is scheduled for OSU tomorrow. I went through this process last year with my older son (1st year at Purdue CS major). I found that the determining factor was the accepted student days. If you have the ability to go to these, I highly encourage it. I’m not sure who on this chain has been through it before but, this is when they roll out the carpet for these admitted students. General tours are just that. Once you go back for the in-depth school of business tours, it is different and your child will start eliminating schools. Ex. for OSU students go into as a “pre-'major” and they need a specific GPA when their major is officially declared. Some students are OK with that, others are not.

Is your student planning on going beyond an undergrad level? If so, finances need to be looked at. I would not spend a ridiculous amount of money on undergrad if their intention or needs go beyond that level. Student and parents should not go into large debt if there are other good options out there. I feel that all the schools I have heard on here, are excellent options. I’ve learned though this process with my first that they will find their “place” and what suits them. My 1st is having the time of his life and LOVES Purdue. He doesn’t even think about coming home! This isn’t about us (parents) anymore. All we can do is help guide them through the process so they can make their first real adult decision.

@BreakfastClub1 how was OSU? Did you learn anything about business program?
My son did not register for any OSU events and so I would love to hear any news.
