Linear algebra/multivariable calc impressive for senior?

Is it an impressive thing to have finished calc ab and bc and be on to linear or multivariable for senior year in high school schedule?
Or is it more of a run of the mill thing for all smart people?
Thanks.

It is not that overly unique at “top colleges,” from what I can tell. Most math/science freshman people I know have taken at least multivariable.

It’s not unique but it is impressive. It is evidence that you took advantage of a challenging math curriculum. Can you also get involved in AMC exams and other math competitions?

It’s obviously impressive to do well in advanced classes but to be fair I don’t think it gives you too much advantage over people whose high schools aren’t good enough to offer MV calc / linear algebra. Is it typically offered at your school or are you doing it through independent study / community college?

I agree, it’s impressive, but not unique. My son took Calc BC as a sophomore in hs and Linear Algebra as a junior at a local college. The good thing is that he earned a 5 on the AP test and was able to take a “fun” math class at harvard and not have to take heavy math classes. he’s not a math major. hope this helps

As someone else said, it depends on your high school. Admissions officer expect that you will take the most rigorous courses available at your high school. At my school, the highest math offered was Calc AB, so admissions officers would expect me to have completed Calc AB. If your school offers linear algebra/multi-variable calc, admissions officers would expect you to take it. If you’re taking it through a local university of community college, it would probably be fairly impressive. However, as others have said, it’s probably not very uncommon, especially among students focused on Maths.

I don’t think we can say. It really depends on your school’s system. At my school, there were 20-25 kids in multivariable and linear alg as seniors, and i was the one junior. so to kids from my school, it might have just been expected. But if you come from a school where you really had to work hard to get into that class, then yes, i would say its quite impressive
