Is the linguistics program on of the stronger or weaker at Brandeis?

On that note, does anyone know of a place that ranks colleges by major (other than Best Schools for Engineering…I am looking for Best Schools for Linguistics)?

can't speak to quality or current situation, but you should probably read this article from last spring: http://www.thejusticeonline.com/media/paper573/news/2005/04/19/News/WorldRenowned.Linguist.To.Leave.Brandeis.For.Tufts-929612.shtml

if you are interested in linguistics be sure to ask a lot of questions about how the department is in the aftermath of what is discussed in this article.
Looking at what courses have been offered this year may help you get a sense of this - that's true at any school - be sure to look at actual courses offered, not courses listed in the catalogue -- there can be a huge difference.

As for rankings of schools by majors - the closest thing I've found is the US News ranking of graduate programs - which is by type of program. Although it is for graduate, not undergraduate, it can give some idea if a school has a strong department in a given area -- though obviously the undergrad experience can be ver different from the grad experience. I don't know if they rank linguistics.
