List of Colleges Giving Refunds -- COVID -- helps for making decisions about schools

Because of COVID choosing a college has a new factor. What happens if you have to leave the campus and come home? Part of that equation is which colleges have started to give out refunds. The refunds could be for tuition, for room and board, and for other things.

To my mind a college that offers refunds, is a better bet for my child than one that’s not offering refunds.

It would be great if you could help create a list and state, if you know, what sort of compensation the college has decided on. If you don’t know the amounts, that’s fine, but perhaps note it if’s for tuition, or what have you.

I’ll start –

Bryn Mawr has so far refunded some room and board, paid stipend for student work, and has paid back some tuition. I’m not sure the amounts entirely.

Purdue in Indiana has refunded part of room and board for those students who have left campus.

It was $750 for the room and whatever meal plan dollars were remaining on the student’s account so that part will vary. Students had to be moved out by the end of March to qualify. School is over in early May so it was really only one month of housing expenses so that amount made sense.

If Bryn Mawr paid back some part of tuition (and I believe you!), that is the first school I have heard do that.

Bowdoin refunded pro-rated room & board, around 50% or so.
