“I’m never going to need [calculus/French/science/literature/etc.]. Why do I have to study it?”

“Because it will make you a well-rounded person.”

“I don’t wanna be a well-rounded person, I just wanna make a lot of money.”

Did anyone mention yet? “S/he is a ■■■■■.”

I love this.

Yes - I was going to write about roommate problems and a parent asking if they should call the parents of the roommate, but it’s already been mentioned.

“I got 1910 on my SATs and have a 3.5 GPA, can you suggest some LACs?”

“Take a look at Williams, Amherst and Middlebury.”

This is my new favorite thread!

Tht I put this down, but don’t see it:

“Where can I find info about [name a college]?” or
"Does this college have classes in [name a common subject]?

well, no one can say we take ourselves too seriously ;)

“Any parents out there willing to read my essay?” (posted in the cafe)

“USNWR Rankings are meaningless. It’s all about fit.”

[Insert anecdote about 5th cousin who went to 4th tier LAC over several top colleges who is now successful. Follow with anecdote about DD or DS’s classmate who went to an Ivy, partied (“my kids never party, ever”), flunked out, and is now working at McDonald’s while living on their mom’s couch.]

What the best college for pre-med major?
answer: Pre-med is not a major

I’m looking at college A,B,C,D,E,F and G. Which do you think I have best chance of getting in? (With no stats, background, preferences, courses/degree interests listed)

This thread cracks me up. I must admit to being guilty of complaining about my EFC but thankfully I haven’t spouted too many other platitudes.

If I go to a school ranked #5 on USNWR instead of a school ranked #3, will my life be ruined?

For some reason, the line “It’s all about fit” reminds me of the bartender’s line in the cantina scene in Star Wars, “We don’t want their kind around here.”

I also dislike “Don’t take rejection personally” when said to a student who is [over]qualified by GPA, rigor of courses, AP scores, SAT I and SAT II, and EC’s. There’s not much left that isn’t personal.

What’s the best college/major if I want to be an investment banker? (“Is Stern better than Ross?” “Is it better to get a business degree or major in economics?” )

I’m enjoying this thread.

Though I haven’t seen one around lately, there are also all those posts about whether or not parents ‘edit’ their child’s essay (and not just the application essay) and whether or not this continues into their collegiate career.

My favorite has to have been the one where the student is GOING to move to MI and wants to know if you can say he’s a Michigan resident on his application.

“I am new to this thread”
“I have not read all pages/posts ( if more than few pages)”
then they’d ask same thing to OP again, someone else make snarky comments again, then someone else would jump in, all of them have not read the whole thing.
happens every 10 or so pages.

why don’t you all, eh, read?

^ I can understand this when the thread is 50 pages, but I recently saw a thread that was literally 2 pages long and someone posted, “I didn’t read the whole thread, but…”

I could not believe it. I wanted to say, “You could not read 2 pages?” but I refrained. Posted it here instead.

“Liberal arts colleges are great places for undecided students to explore.”

While liberal arts colleges have their advantages, this is usually not one of them. Indeed, this is often a disadvantage compared to a big university, due to the more limited selection of courses and majors.

Well I read all eight pages, and I still haven’t seen my favorite:

“Pick up the phone, and call them.”
