List of Summer Programs

Yes, that’s about right.

Science Research

Jackson Labs Summer Student Program
[Summer Student Program - The Jackson Laboratory](http://education.jax.org/summerstudent/index.html)

I don’t think this program is very well known, but it offers a $3,600 (!!!) stipend, and is VERY competitive, open to both juniors and seniors in high school and undergraduates. Admission stats from last year: 413 Applicants, 29 Acceptances, 7%. 12 High School Students accepted. Nine weeks. Seems pretty incredible. I’m applying :).

Admission stats from Clark last year:

144 applicants, 12 acceptance, 8.3% acceptance rate.

The program also offers a $750 stipend on top of free accommodation (even access to a pool). For the juniors and seniors out there, Clark is the lurking gem among the highly selective research programs.

Same for the Cornell Nanobiotechnology Center (NBTC) High School Internship Program. Over 100 applicants, less than 10 acceptances.

Does anyone else know of any good research internship programs? Thanks.

Blsf, is this list roughly organized in order of prestige/difficulty?

Thanks for starting this thread! I work for a nonprofit and help underserved minority students attain information and resources about enrichment and going to college. I am in the process of looking for stimulating summer opportunities for them-- at this point, even arranging for them to babysit a neighbor’s child or shadow somebody on the job would be useful for them.

The programs listed so far are VERY competitive, but I found an inexpensive summer program for younger students hosted by IMSA (Illinois Math and Science Academy):
https://www3.imsa.edu/programs/SummeratIMSA

There are other interesting day programs:
[MIT ESP - Junction](MIT ESP - Junction)
It’s $600 and there is financial aid available. It’s a day program.

I would also mention that for students for whom finances are not a concern, there are lots of wonderful and interesting pre-college options out there, including programs at Harvard, WashU, and the University of Chicago, Brown, and so on. I also know about Exploration (explo.org) and recommend it highly to students of all ages (they have different programs).

I did the Young Writers’ Studio at the University of Iowa back in the day and loved, loved, loved, loved, loved it. Such good memories!

Are the programs in the revised list ALL prestigious or only some of them?
How about the RISE program? Does that have some prestige? (especially for college apps?)

Bump.

Bump for what? What was your question, Htwnscholar?
