I just wondering where FIRST competitions would go? ie FIRST Robotics Competition Awards or FIRST Tech Challenge awards
I personally don’t see AIME or AMC 12 school winner as a 6 - which according to the list is on par with semi-finalists for USPhO/USChO/USABO/USACO. Just being the best in your school in the AMC contest doesn’t equate to being a semi-finalist in the olympiads, where less than 1,000 people qualify.
Also, multiple people at a high school usually qualify for the AIME - indeed our local high school had 14 people take the AIME today. How can that be the same as a national semi-finalist in an olympiad?
I would move the AIME and AMC 12 school winner to 5
AIME is semi-finalist for USAMO. Just because your school has 14 ppl qualify (we had 13) doesn’t take away from what it is. Only the top 5% in the nation made it. About 3k -5k kids. It is an achievement whether you believe its significance or not.
USAMO is ranked above RSI/TASP?
I would put coca-cola scholar high on the list. 250/80,000 is pretty prestigious.
Where is the YoungArts program on that list? I would call it more prestigious than the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, especially for Silver & Gold winners.
i meant to never post again, but i felt compelled: jules, YoungArts is presidential scholar of the arts, which as you can see we ranked an 8. i’d say YoungArts and Scholastic Portfolio Gold Medal are about equal in their incredible prestige. obviously, scholastic medals for specific works are not as prestigious as qualifying for YoungArts week.
10 - D1 athlete, IMO/IPHO/ICHO/IBO medals, Intel (top 10), Siemens National Winner/National Finalists, ISEF top 3 Grand Prize, Published in Nature or Science, YES Competition (Young Epidemiology Scholarship) Top 6.
9 - ISEF(1st places), Siemens Westinghouse (finalists), MOP, Intel Finalist, NFL Nationals winner (speech and debate)
8 - TASP, RSI, USPhO/USChO/USABO/USAMO/USACO national finalist (inclusive of USAMO qualification), Siemens Semi-finalists/ISEF(2-4 places), Intel semifinalist, Running your own successful business, AMC Perfect Score, Presidential Scholar, Davidson Fellow, Presidential Scholar of the Arts, Scholastic Art & Writing Portfolio Gold Award
7 - Selective summer programs or competitions, such as SSP, Clark Summer Program, YESS, NIH Research, and MITES. ARML top score, Scholastic Art & Writing National Silver or Gold Medal. NFL Nationals qualifier (speech and debate), Congressional Award Gold Medalist, YES Competition (Young Epidemiology Scholarship) Top 4.
6 - USPhO/USChO/USABO/USACO semifinalist, AIME, AMC 12 school winner, Science Olympiad National medals, Congressional Award Silver Medalist, Science Bowl/Ocean Science Bowl/NAQT winners
5 - National Latin Convention 1st Places Academic Contests, All-Eastern/all-regional music, National History Day winner
4- Perfect Score (Multiple Years) on National Latin Exam, or other languages, some state awards (all-state music, etc), Science Olympiad state medals (depending on what state you’re from), USAMTS Gold, National History Day, JETS TEAMS National Finalist or Regional winner, MUN Gavel
3 - All-County music, winning at local/regional science fairs, Eagle Scout, National Merit
2 - Bank of America Awards, most local awards/trophies (art, music, community - although they will say something about your character), Essay Contests, State History Day
1 - National Honor Society, Beta Club, School Departmental Awards, School Honor Roll, Key Club, CSF, Interact Club
0 - Who’s Who, National Honor Roll, National Society of High School Scholars
I feel like we might as well put in ACT perfect score, SAT perfect score, valedictorian, etc. and make this a compiled list beyond simply ECs.
especially since we have such things as “National Honor Society” and “starting a business”
10 Fingers “Loser”
Well, YoungARTS doesn’t necessarily mean Presidential Scholar in the Arts. I almost feel like Presidential Scholar should be removed from the list because those results don’t even come out until April, which is after colleges have made their decisions.
Also, many students named as Gold or Silver Award winners by NFAA are not selected as PSAs.
lol amc12 school winner is 6 and usamts gold is only 4?
a good number of the usamts problems are legit, and you can’t miss any of them for a gold. Some people point to the possibility of cheating, but that involves finding someone who knows how to do the problems and is willing to help you cheat (not very likely)
mflevity, you do have a point on both counts.
Did we ever rate the girls state/boys state programs?
Sorry if I missed it

I laughed a little when I read the part with MUN Gavel. I won Best Delegate at the Columbia conference and didn’t really think much of it. Is it really that big (or small I guess, since it is 4…) of a deal?
^ If you’re gonna move rsi up, move tasp up too. Those two are widely seen as equals.
i feel that getting 1st for ISEF is a bit more prestigious than siemens finalist
it is international afterall
DECA Regional, state, international?
How about the other math comps? (mandelbrot, natioanal assesment test, etc)
the nobel prize that I won. top that *****.
