List of Undergraduate Liberal Arts Colleges within a Research University

Hello! As the title says, I was wondering if you knew of any private universities (regardless of stats) that had an undergraduate liberal arts college, but still had a graduate schools - like university of chicago or tulane

Thank you in advance.

So literally every research university in the county other than Rockefeller, Kellog School, and UCSF? I’m not sure I understand your question.

In my opinion, you may be missing something that is quite important. Numerous universities – including many of the top ten or twenty national research universities – are frequently organized with an undergraduate (“arts and sciences”) college within the overall university structure (normally at the same organizational level as, for example, the law or business schools). To illustrate, Harvard College is the integral undergraduate school of Harvard Universality and similarly Trinity College is the integral undergraduate school of Duke University. Please note, however, that – depending on concentration – some undergraduates may be enrolled in other colleges, such as engineering or nursing.

This, however, does NOT make those “arts and sciences” colleges – within such major universities – identical to LACs, and that’s my key point. While there are several reasons for this, perhaps the most critical is a professor at a LAC generally is almost entirely focused on teaching undergraduates, whereas at a national research university he may necessarily reduce his undergraduate teaching emphasis to address scholarly research and teaching postgraduate (Master’s and PhD) students.
