WHAT? How could UPenn NOT be #1 on an overall Pennsylvania ranking?

EXPLAIN YOURSELF!

j/k...I'm not upset...just confused by your ignorance...

WHAT? How could UPenn NOT be #1 on an overall Pennsylvania ranking?

EXPLAIN YOURSELF!

j/k...I'm not upset...just confused by your ignorance...

Can someone compile it into a list so that we don't have to look at the pages just to compare schools?

PENNSYLVANIA:

Swarthmore

Bryn Mawr

Haverford

Bucknell

CMU

UPenn

Lehigh

Franklin & Marshall

Muhlenberg Coll

Penn State (U. Park)

I really wouldnt put F&M and Muhl ahead of PSU. As much as I despise PSU, it would certainly be ahead of those two schools.

Florida is debatable but (in somewhat order):
UFlorida
UMiami
Florida State U
New College of Florida
UCF
USF

I know someone is going to post something, saying School A is better than School B but this is the internet and people are entitled to their opinions.

Actually you did a pretty good job WC. NCF will probably be ahead of FSU eventually since it's so new. No doubt that UF is #1 though.

Duke

Wake

Davidson

UNC chapel hill

Elon

NC State

Massachusetts-Harvard, MIT,Williams,Amherst, Smith,Tufts, Brandeis, Holy Cross, Mt. Holyoke, Wellesley-all ranked in top US News 35 in Univ. or National LAC'S. Maine-Bowdoin, Colby, Bates.

jPod you asked (re PENNSYLVANIA), and I'm replying. The Q which are the "top 10" schools in your state. If it had simply been which schools have the best reputation, I would have obviously gone w/ Penn because a big, powerful research U will generally trump an LAC of similar or even better rep (as an undergrad institution), because in this country, we favor graduate research & (financial) development potential. But I tend to lean toward the LAC experience. So when you look at Penn vs. Swat or Bryn Mawr or Haverford, you're really talking about the same pool of students, stats-wise. But I don't think a larger research institution like UPenn while, obviously much better than it's peer universities at undergraduate education, it is not a match for a top tier LAC whose focus, unlike a UPENN or a Michigan or a Berkeley or a Wisconsin, is the delivery of a high-quality collegiate learning experience. So, in my book, either the LAC -- or the research U with the MOST LAC-type experiences, among other quality experiences for undergrads wins.

Hendrix

Lyon

U of A-Fayetville

Ouachita Baptist

Harding

ASU-Jonesboro

UCA

UAPB

Henderson

Williams Baptist

par72 - (if you were ranking) I wouldn't place Tufts behind Smith; Amherst, Williams, and Tufts are the same quality; Wellesley is definitely ahead of Mt. Holyoke, Brandeis, and Holy Cross. If you weren't ranking, then never mind lol.

Also, on another note, is it fair to be listing LAC's mixed in with Research Universities? just curious...This just applies to the posts in general.

Here's my opinion on AR schools:

Hendrix (far ahead of the rest)

Lyon

UCA (Honors Program)

U of A - Fayetteville (Honors Program)

Harding

U of A - Little Rock (Donaghey Scholars Program)

AR Tech - Russellville

Ouachita Baptist

ASU-Jonesboro

Williams Baptist

umm for oregon, i would definately say that schools such as linfield are a lot better than Oregon state

I was talking about Penn State, but yeah...

DC & Virginia:

UVA

Georgetown (I'm having trouble with which is better...they share a ranking on USNWR and UVA is public so...the egde goes to UVA)

Washington & Lee

William & Mary

George Washington

Virginia Tech

American

James Madison

University of Mary Washington

George Mason

AU over VATech. No reason URichmond shouldnt be there. ;)

Public - Carnegie 1 Research:

1 - U Florida*

Florida State*

3 - U South Florida*

Note:
*rank varies - depends on program area; this list reflects quantity of ranked programs

Public Undergraduate - Specialty:

1 - New College of Florida

Private:

1 - U Miami

Northwestern University

University of Chicago

University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign

Wheaton College

University of Illinois - Chicago

Illinois Institute of technology

Loyola University

Knox College

DePaul University

Illinois Wesleyan

The only thing worse than the various ranking by magazines, review books and college web sites are listings made with no apparent rational reasoning what so ever.

What is the point?

i'll just say alabama is hard to rank because of the lack of good schools
1. birmingham-southern college (hands down)
2. samford
3. u of a
4. auburn
5. montevallo?

man... I'm not going to change anything, but the people who ranked ohio's schools clearly do not live in Ohio.
