I was wondering how colleges go about getting to the FAFSA information. My brother says that the colleges receive the FAFSA info in the order you entered them. I only have 4 colleges listed on my FAFSA though. For example, if you list your top choice school as your first choice on the FAFSA, will they give you more consideration for aid? And also, if I listed a school as number two, will they give me LESS aid for listing them second? My brother (who has already been through college), told me that they will give me less aid because I listed their school as "Second Choice" on the FAFSA. Therefore, the school will get my information later than my first choice, and give me less aid. Is he correct?

Thanks.

Not true at all that they get it in the order you list the schools. Schools upload from FAFSA periodically. When they upload they will get all the FAFSAs where they are listed. Whether school A gets your FAFSA before school E depends on whether school A or school E uploads from FAFSA. If school E uploads on march 1st and school A does it on March 5th then school E will have your data first.

The only time I have heard it mattering what order you list schools is for one or two States that offer state grants to instate students look.

Thanks. That’s what I thought they did. He has my parents believeing this also, so they are now flipping out… I tried to explain this to them, that they upload it when they do the Fin aid packages, but now they think that I won’t get any money from an in-state college because I listed them as my second choice.
