Does anyone know anyone that has gone to one of the lesser known art schools? All I see on this board is the big name schools RISD, SVA, the Calif schools, Pratt, Pratt, and Pratt. Seems like no one even considers the smaller, less well-known (read not "prestigious") schools. Or should I hope they remain a secret so that my DD has a chance of getting in her school of choice?

Yes my DD was accepted at a state university that has a new art facility, is located in an artists community, and has the cutting edge technology that artists need to "work" with (when making money as an artist) It's not RISD, they were a little bit used, its not SAIC they were a bit high brow. The minute we visited campus she began to imagine all kids of works, venturing in different media. Its priced right for us parents as well. It's a laptop school, free laptop for all students. GORGEOUS COUNTRY. Ok the down side....its located in Marquette michigan and the snow is very deep in winter. (stay in the studio and work!!) Prestige? Starbucks CEO (Howard)went to this school.

Thanks - I now have hope. She visited a school in New England that also had the latest and greatest technology - they were updating all their mac's and they too had the laptop deal. And priced less than the big name competitors. In fact one university said they couldn't compete with them and lost the best art students. I will check out the school you refer to - she WANTS to go where it snows - we're from Florida and she wants some climate change.

The Kansas City Art Instute is a very good school in KC,MO. It is right by the beautiful Nelson art gallery and University of Mo Kansas City and the Plaza. It's a small self contained campus in a beautiful setting. The school is very good and gives very decent scholarships. The community is supportive of the arts and its students. The first friday of every month these is a walking gallery opening to showcase the students and working artists. I can recomment this school. My art club regularly donates money to support the school. They give us lectures and communicate the school aims and goals. You might look in to KCAI.

I agree about Kansas City Art Institute. My daughter went to their pre college summer program and loved it. She is applying there and it is her first choice. She loved the campus, location and can't wait to start there.
