Little known gem

As a parent of two college age students and as a college grad myself, I am amazed how much attention gets paid to the schools that get the most coverage for their sports programs. I am a big college basketball fan and loyal to my alma mater, but am shocked each year to read a column in the Boston Globe that shows the graduation rates of the teams that make the NCAA tournament. Many so-called student athletes are hardly students at all. It makes me feel a little guilty about rooting for them when I realize that the entertainment they provide me is really the only bright spot in a life that too often has nothing going for it afterwards. (Fewer college stars make it into the pros than we realize.) I was so glad to see USA today run an article praising ten sports venues which included a segment on the Hart Center for Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA. HC routinely has a 100% graduation rate and the arena is terrific. Not a bad seat in the place. Check out the article at Free Blog Hosting - Today.com N.htm?loc=intestitial/skip. Better yet, come Worcester, see a game and visit the beautiful campus of one of the best liberal arts schools in America.
