Living off Campus as a Freshman

Hey everyone,

I will be coming to study at UC this fall and, unfortunately, due to financial reasons, I will have to live off campus.

Do you have any advice on how to get engaged in the community and make friends even though I will not be living in a dorm? Is that a major disadvantage?

Just hang out with people after/before class. Visit them at their dorm, or head over to Calhoun St and grab some lunch with them. Participate in the tons of special interest groups that are available, and/or investigate the Greek scene. Welcome to UC. Have fun.

Have you registered to become part of a Learning Community? Learning Communities enroll small groups of students (15-23) into a set of courses together in their major or as part of an exploratory program. I think that would be an excellent way to meet people. It also looks like UC has a commuter student association (second link). Lastly, if you like soccer, I would look into joining one of the FC Cincinnati groups. There’s one just for students, The Legion, which is student run and includes UC and other colleges.
