Living Off Campus As A Freshman?

I am doing some college Planning and I saw that the college I want to go to (Wright State University) living on- campus fees are a little over $1400!!! Would I be able to live Off Campus as a freshman?

The web site says commuters are welcome: https://www.wright.edu/campus-life/residential-living

I would call to be sure.

Thank you!

Well, if you live nearby, you can commute, but you’d lose a lot of the experience and academic opportunities… $1,400 isn’t much as far as these costs go even if it seems a lot, is that per month? (It’s often 12-18k/year).
Also, if you don’t live on campus and you qualify for a scholarship for full costs then they cut the room&board part. If you qualify for need based aid, they cut the aid for on campus licibg if you don’t use room&board. But you still haven’t pay for your car, car maintenance, gas, and food. So it may not end up being such a bargain.

Yes, you can live off campus at WSU. There are many apt complexes nearby. But I agree with @MYOS1634 that you lose some of the experience if you don’t live on campus, though you may save some $ if you live off (probably not as much as you might think).

Not sure where you got $1400 to live on campus…according to their website, room and board for the year cost over $9000 for the year at Wright State.

Commuters from home certainly are welcome…but it’s not free to commute either. Consider the costs of commuting.

If you plan to rent an apartment, I seriously doubt you can even share one and have the costs come in at under $1400 a YEAR.

There are soooo many advantages to a freshman living on campus. Being involved in clubs, study groups, intramurals and most importantly, just hanging out with the kids in your dorm is hard to duplicate off campus. Typically kids move off with the friends they made while on campus. Many colleges require it which I think is a great idea.
