Hello I spent over 5 hours reading all the helpful threads on the housing and food. They were all from 2006: if I may, I have a few questions to pose for my sake and my future roomate [hopefully].

We agree we want Carman first but could not tell if the LLC dorms [wall/hart..] were really cleaned only once a week. We cannot decide on our second choices for dorms wether it be Furnald or hart or wallach. We will get a double. We just like bathrooms that are ours, shared with a few ppl, or cleaned daily.

I personally have a question on the kosher and halaal foor at CU. I can't find menus for those types of food and I have no preference for either [as I am not affiliated by religion to them] I just prefer them to standard practices of food processing. How are the kosher and halaal food choices? would I be severely limited or does it matter?

about the food: halal is pretty non-existent. it’s just three pretty bad choices a day at john jay, if that.
kosher: pretty good at hewitt (barnard) and there’s a kosher deli at john jay, but it is more expensive, though. i personally wouldn’t get the halal meal plan, because there aren;t really any good options and im not sure whether kosher would be worth the money.
about the rooms: a furnald double would be pretty nice, since furnald is clean and quite. the common areas in the llc can get quite dirty, but i know people who really like it there despite of the occasional dirtiness.

oh no I know NYC has it all, I mean is it worth getting halaal or kosher for meal plans or just normal food at CU, or more dining bucks. IDK why ppl dont like the food. When I visited It was fresh pizza and charbroiled hamburgers…and juice lol [and lettuce :K].

get the regular meal plan…i think its sortof unethical to get those meal plans for non-religious reasons.

choose john jay double as your second choice. i’ve written extensively about the downsides of living in the LLC and furnald freshman year…some people loved their experience in the LLC though and stayed there 3 or 4 years. so it really depends on your personality. john jay bathrooms are cleaned every weekday.

Why is that unethical? I’ve encountered a few nutjobs who have decided to keep kosher for non-religious reasons … more like whatever health reasons they concocted. If someone pays for the kosher meal and doesn’t do anything to screw w/ the “kosher” process, what’s it to you?

yeah I don’t think the choosing meal plans for non-religious reasons is unethical, you’re paying more, so it might be stupid.

I’ve lived in the LLC as a sophmore, it was awesome and friendly, most freshmen tend to have a great social network. but there are virtually no parties and the RA’s can be hands-on at times. It depends what you want, the LLC is a bit of a warm and fuzzy place which might get suffocating after a while. But it definitely provides great support if you want/need it, the upperclassmen can be a fantastic resource. The parties are in Carman and John Jay. Furnald is the nice and nerdy dorm. People are less social. It is for someone who likes quiet who likes a clean feeling to their dorm. Overall the dorms are not absolutely better than one or the other. They are all pretty even, but offer different characteristics. Carman is, today, the most popular dorm, but 10 years ago it was the least popular, not too much has changed since then. As a sophomore furnald and the LLC are the best places to live because you get singles.
