LLM - Makes me eligible to practice Law in US?

If I was getting an undergrad law degree at a UK university (where I'm from), and then do the LLM in the States, will I be eligible to practice law after having taken the bar exam for a state?

Say, if I don't come to the US and do the LLM in my native Britain, will I still be able to come over and practice in America?

In many states no since they require you to have a law degree (J.D. not LLM) from an ABA approved law school. Others may allow you to practice with additional education although LLM is not necessarily it and still others will accept you only if you first practice in another state for a number of years. Go here for a booklet that has various charts summarizing rules for being admitted to the bar of a state including those rules applicable to those with law degrees from foreign countries: http://www.ncbex.org/fileadmin/mediafiles/downloads/Comp_Guide/CompGuide_2010.pdf
