LMU|LA Admitted Students: Class of '17

I got in about a month ago and they JUST notified me that I received the Arrupe Scholarship ($13,800/yr). Too bad it’s still fifty-freakin-seven thousand dollars per YEAR. I’m definitely going to a UC, but congratulations to everyone who wants to go to LMU!

Just got our financial aid… very dissapointed even with financial aid i have to come up with 42k

Terrible FA package for my S-- very similar to others mentioned. Over $20000 per year less in scholarship thanhis other top choice so likely a no go. We are visiting LMU and his other top choice this coming week and I am hoping to talk to someone in FA. Not sure if that will help-- does anyone have experience with LMU financial aid? I will bring a copy of the other offer letter. Any other suggestions? All sofrustrating-- although I remember reading a few years ago that LMU was one of the worst in terms of FA in the country so I guess I should not be surprised. I was hoping they had improved

Hope others have better news!

We haven’t had to deal with them much as D received pretty good package 3 years ago. This year S got a disappointing FA package compared to her, but he isn’t quite as high w/test scores, etc. FA with student loans included is a gap from EFC of about $10000. There is an appeal process, they have specific criteria and directly note they do not match offers, try this link to access the form. [Forms - LMU Financial Aid](Forms - Loyola Marymount University)

This formalized and easier process seems new to me this year, makes me wonder (hope) it means they gapped people with the expectation of appeals. We chose the category of appeal that matched most closely, and I wrote a beggar letter. Good luck.

Thanks jtmoney-- I will give it a try.

I got descent financial aid. Received the Arrupe Scholarship and also got some other helpful grants. About 16K a year - but was asked to apply for Student Works (work study) which gives significant financial aid as well.

Merit package from LMU 30K as engineering admit. Found them to be pretty generous. From what I read on this forum across schools, FA tends to be on lower end or extreme. Middle gets pretty squeezed as usual and doesn’t get help with 60K tuition.
