I just got some amazing mail today!!!

Thanks to my senator Maria Cantwell, it looks like I will be part of the class of 2009 at the Air Force Academy. I have been waiting for my nomination for a month or so after I recieved my Letter of Assurance from the Academy. And it finally came!!!

Man, this is amazing, I still don’t think I completely realize that I’m going to attend the Air Force Academy!

Someone who is fluent in the subject please back this up for me. If one has their Letter of assurance, a nomination, and a qualified letter, then they are in, Right?

Ryan

well, assuming you don't kill somebody and/or fail out of high school... ;)

But yes, you are in. It will probably take them 1-3 weeks to get you your official appointment, and they might send it first to your ALO. It just depends. I received LOA early December, my nomination a couple weeks later, and my final appointment maybe the second-third week of January. My ALO was sent a packet of stuff, and I think two days later I got my own packet.

CONGRATULATIONS! I am so happy for you! You must feel so proud, and I bet you're still in shock! It's going to be weird probably going to school the next couple days, at least it was for me. I just walked around and thought, "Wow... I really am in."

So are you really going to say yes for sure, as in you'll fill out the acceptance forms the day they come? I wish I could have that strong a conviction, but I'm still waiting to hear from all the other schools.

Seriously, congrats on everything, definately revel in what you have accomplished. I hope that I will see you at in-processing day, June 30, 2005.

I commend you on a job well done, you member of the Class of 09, you.

Thanks bud

I have already been accepted to the University of Washington with a ride on NROTC, and I also have a principle nomination to the Naval Academy (but no word from them yet)...But I guess all of that is pretty irrelevant considering I have wanted to go to the Air Force Academy since 8th grade.

What state are you from? I'm from the northwest, Washington state.

Ryan

I'm from southern California (right near the beach), so USAFA (er... actually anywhere that isn't UCSD or Stanford) would be a huge change for me weather and environment-wise.

I've also wanted to go to USAFA since 8th. It's funny... I remember telling this one kid at our "graduation" how I was going to go there, and he laughed at me. I was like, "Oh just you watch." According to my high school friends I've been talking about USAFA ever since the first day of 9th. Guess maybe I'm more suited to it than I think.

I considered applying to Naval Acad, but like you, my heart just wasn't in it as much. I felt the pull towards USAFA. Well... that and I get seasick, so I figured maybe the Navy wasn't the way to go. And I have this... thing against the bottom of air craft carriers. Yeah, I am really weird, but the point is USAFA was sucking me in like the Death Star did the Milenium Falcon.

Either way, I'm still happy for you. Always cool to meet future potential classmates (or squadmates or even elementmates...). :P
