Loan Disbursement Timing

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one in this situation as several other suitemates seem to be in the same spot.

The deadline to pay for winter quarter fees is December 19th and I have around $900 outstanding. The problem is that disbursement for loans from Citigroup doesn't come until the 29th of December. Since these loans go directly to the university, they'll use it to pay off any outstanding debts before the start of the quarter and I should be fine, right?

Has anyone dealt with something like this in the past?

Yeah, I'm facing the same situation. I'm guessing you have to pay the money out of your own pocket now and when the loan comes through, you will be credited with either a check or direct deposit, depending on whether you signed up for it or not. I know it kind of defeats the purpose of the loan if you have to pay out of your own pocket. If you had the money, you wouldn't need the loan, I know. However, I guess you have to somehow come up with the money at least temporarily.

Talk to Financial Aid Office and/or Student Business and they should clear you of any penalties--so long as you have evidence from your loan creditor that you ARE getting the money on that date.

oh dont worry, i already talked to the sbs and financial aid office, we dont get penalized or get charged any late fee.

Finally got a response from them. Thanks to everyone for their help.

"Stafford Preliminary funds

Financial Aid Office (FAO) has made us aware that there was a delay in the receipt of your Stafford loan funds from your lenders. We are aware that you have Stafford loan monies for Winter 2009 quarter. The FAO is presently working with your lenders to insure that the funds will be available by the due date. In the meantime, please monitor your account.

• If your Stafford loan funds do not cover your balance due, it is your responsibility to pay the difference by the due date of Friday, December 19th.

• We realize the e-check option only allows you to pay the full amount due and that your loans are not reflected. In order to pay only the difference due, you will need to pay the Cashiers in-person or through the mail.

• You do have the option to pay by e-check for the full amount due and will be refunded when the funds are available in January."
