Thanks to karenandjim for teling me (and now you) about the following article in a Colorado Springs newspaper:

http://www.gazette.com/display.php?id=1319492&table=story_archive&sec=46

Interestingly, per this article, it looks like about 50 freshman have dropped out halfway through. Does anyone know if that’s a particularly high or low number?

:) This will go nicely in my son's "scrapbook." He doesn't know yet that I'm creating this memorabilia for him. Hopefully one day he will be glad I did it.

"The harder it is, the better experience they will have." -- C1C Barrow (from the article linked above). This is a great statement and very true.

As for numbers, '09 had about 100 leave during all of BCT (and they started with about 50 more that '10). My class lost over 100 and we had started with just over 1200. Each class is different, and not having access to the official data, it's hard to hazard a real guess at the average. I will say that 50 doesn't sound extremely high or low (to me ;)).

also there is an article dated Friday June 30th about inprocessing i have the newspapers with that article and the one about the march to jack's valley if anyone wants them i'd be happy to send them to you for your cadets memory/scrapbook.

while the cadet's are at jack's valley, are they allowed to recieve/send letters?

"while the cadet's are at jack's valley, are they allowed to recieve/send letters?"

Absolutely. However, basics tend to have less "free time" and be more tired in 2nd BCT. This means that while they will still be overjoyed to get and read mail, they will probably be less able to send them as frequently.
