Confidentiality, I’m not really sure about that. I think you should speak with an adviser at UCLA about that. Your situation is unique and a UCLA adviser should be able to help you with the details.

About the unit limit: I know that 105 is the unit for community college units. Can you transfer in more units if those additional units are AP units?

You do have to petition for concurrent enrollment.

The other option that you should look into is: Accept your admission, go for a quarter or two and then take a leave of absence and do a quarter or two at a community college. You should then be able to transfer those units back into UCLA. I don’t know what UCLA’s policy about taking academic leaves of absences is, but that might be something you can check into.

I turned down a prestigious medical school I could have attended in India right after high school to attend a CC (so I would have more time to think through my choices) and I can tell you, attending a CC sucks. Really, almost all your classes are going to be a cakewalk, and you probably will struggle adjusting to the workload at UCLA right when you transfer. (I did terribly on the AP Lang test and my CC professor told me I was the best writer he’s had in 15 years! ***?)

CC slaughters your work ethic, you barely make any friends (and people here are really shady- this is coming from one of the top CCs in Cali), and it’s miserable living at home when you sign onto facebook everyday and see all your friends having more meaningful experiences at UCLA. Furthermore, you barely learn anything of value at CC- if anything, sometimes I feel dumbed down. Do you really want to sacrifice a meaningful education to save money? In the long run, it is not worth it.

I don’t have a clear answer for you, but I think the choice is IN YOU. You should really take some time and just organize or pros and cons again, prioritize your choices! Do you really want a “college experience” over giving your family a “financial burden” or vice-versa?
