Child #2 is a Junior at a Public Magnet High School , studied piano two years , followed by Electric Bass with very good teacher from Eastman School . He also plays the double bass in school orchestra and carried 4.0 average , IB diploma candidate , plays on school's rugby team and not a big EC type of student except political clubs.

He wants to study ELECTRIC BASS in Performance in college . BERKELEE is not an option .

I googled and only found one well-rounded college with Electric Bass as peformance major. (WOOSTER ) .

Does anyone know other colleges that can be found with this major ( possibly education minor ) .

My son recently graduated from Belmont University in Nashville as a Commercial Violin Major. There are students there studying electric bass and I believe you can have electric bass as your degree concentration. Many opportunities to perform and record at Belmont. I can't speak concerning the quality of the electric bass teachers, but my son spoke of several very fine student bassists at the school.

I'm not positive, but you might want to look into the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. They have a large music program, with majors in performance, and a minor in education, and their bass teacher specializes in electric bass. My daughter is there for musical theater, so I'm not exactly sure of the music program, but have just started looking into it for jazz performanced for my son.

In a directory I have, I see University of the Arts (in Phila.) and SUNY Buffalo mentioned for Electric Bass. I would also research schools with Jazz studies and commercial/popular music and delve into their departments.

Cincinnati Conservatory has a variety of undergraduate degrees (Jazz Studies) that combines music and education. They allow you to do a double major. I would email them to see if they have an electric bass component. They have many prominent guest artists who work with the students.

Spoke to S this afternoon. The school is the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. A couple of very good bassists that he knows study there.

Just today found such a major listed at Duquesne University, in Pittsburgh. Please let me know if you find others- my son is also an electric bass (and string bass) player!
