I visited Colgate during the summer and I thought that the campus was beautiful. BUT I really didn't like the surrounding area. It seems WAY to quiet and boring for me.

Is it just me?

My daughter attends Colgate and is from suburban Boston. She LOVES Colgate and has never been bored. There is always something to do and the small town/college fosters a real sense of community. If you have had a strictly urban upbringing, however, it could be a real culture shock. The closest mall is about 45 minutes away, I believe.

Come back when the school's in session. You'll be surprised to see how packed the Hill is! Yes, the surrounding area's a little quiet but I do a lot of running around it (usually go out as far as 6 miles in raidus) and believe me... there are people and cars that come and go that I wonder where they go!

My daughter, a Junior now, who spent most high school weekends in NYC and came back for an internship this past summer has never been bored at Colgate.True she and her friends drive from time to time to Syracuse to go to the Mall or pick up goodies at the giant Wegmans, but that's not for lack of things to do or out of boredom. In fact they're always in a hurry to get back to campus.
