Locked CA Essay--Options?

Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but I apparently have clicked the edit button for my CA essay thrice????
So it's locked now. I spent two weeks making tweaks, and now I like what I have. But I can't change it.

I did NOT change my essay three times, but CA has locked me out of editing it

What should I do? Make a new CA account? (probably a bad idea) Email colleges? Would colleges even accept what I send them instead of what they read on my CA app?

I'm freaking out.
I know I'll probably have to end up emailing the 20 colleges I'm applying to. UGH

You must have already actually submitted 3 versions of your essay to different schools to wind up in the situation you are describing.

This situation just can’t have crept on you unexpectedly the way your post seems to indicate. You have been getting a warning message explaining this issue from common app every time you’ve edited your essay since the very first school where you submitted.

Now that you have submitted the 3rd version, you can’t unlock the essay anymore and you do have to submit that same version to all the rest of your schools. Unfortunately, there are really no other options. The best you can do is use the Additional Information section to briefly explain, if necessary. It is not a good plan to ask a school to disregard your CA essay and instead look at one you submit by email or snail mail. That will hurt you in the admissions process.

You should most definitely not create a new common app account. One or both of your accounts could be frozen by CA, if discovered. Also, your GC and teachers will likely be confused and your recs could get quite muddled as a result.

@NickxHyunA, the three revision limit is new to this year. I personally do not agree with this arrangement. I think the rule might have something to do with CA system limitation.

However, there are some schools accepting material from Universal Application, i.e Harvard, Princeton, Washington University at St. Louis, … If any of your dreamed schools accept application through that system, is this an option your are willing to try? I know the essays would be totally different, as well as the forms.

@WritersBlues I swear that I had only clicked the edit button twice. I will try to call CA to see if anything can be done.

@niceday will it really hurt me in the admissions process if I do that?

@Truepassion my counselor will not allow me to do that most likely. He’s not really cooperative and is already frustrated by everything.

You must mean you have clicked the Unlock button? Clicking the Edit button should not have any effect.

@SoCalDad2 Yes. I actually do not remember if there was an “unlock” button because I had not looked at my CA for a couple of weeks.
