Loft-beds?

Has anyone been put in a room with loft beds? If so, what did you think of them? Did it create more space for general movement and storage? I know my roommate and i requested them because we want the ability to put a small couch under one bed and our tv/refrigerator/whatever under the other. Seems like a pretty good idea but i just wanted to hear from some people who have had or seen what this is like.

I had loftable beds last year...we ultimately decided to do bunk beds....for my room that was the best use of space and my roomate (don't as me why!) objected to the futon under the bed idea. The coaches under lofted beds are GREAT! Cheap futons (yay walmart...they have sturdy ones for 88 bucks i believe) are great in case you need an extra place for someone to sleep...desks can also go under losted beds and if you have a roomate you can loft one and put the other halfway but perpendicularly under the lofted one (did that make sense:)? lol). Overall lofted beds are WONDERFUL...they help create space and can give a sterile dorm room a cozy feel. I particularly liked being lofted because I didn't have everyone and their mother plopping down on my bed when they stopped by my room (I'm protective about my sleeping space!:)) ONE WORD OF CAUTION...be careful with a lofted beds if you choose to use them...2 freshman in my class had falls from their beds in the first 8 weeks of school. One broke her arm and the other ended up with a metal plate in his head....sooooo beware. My school actually offered bedrails for reent for 25 dollars per year...or pick up some cheap ones at walmart if they make you feel safer....

I want loft beds. The dorm I'm in right now has bunk beds, but I'm trying to switch to a different one. Partly cuz of the loft beds, and partly cuz I have allergies and the one I'm in now isn't air-conditioned. The other dorm has loft beds with built in desks under them.. you can't change it, but that's how I'd arrange it anyway.

last year my beds were bunked, and then we unbunked them b/c my roomie didn't want to be high up anymore. This year we're bunking 2 beds and lofting the 3rd (3 person room). Definitely makes more room.

My friends on the floor below me did that perpendicular bunking that Decisions2Make attempted to explain.
