loft beds?

does anyone know if freshmen have the option of lofting the beds at Northeastern?
My daughter will be in Stetson West, if that matters.
Thankyou!

I do believe so. My friends got stuck with lofted beds in their IV double that they couldn’t do much about.

Most dorms come with everything pre-lofted and it’s up to the students to de-loft them.

When you say that the beds are pre-lofted, how high do the beds go? The individual beds we saw this past week at orientation looked as they though could be raised to approx. 33" off the floor (without risers) or stacked one on top of the other like bunk beds…

All the beds i ever saw in stetson west/east were unlofted, and i believe that they are unlofted from the start. You can bring bed risers if you want the extra foot or so of space.

I can only address the beds in IV, but I would guess that my observations apply to all the dorms. Son’s bed had the ability to rise to maybe the 33" you are describing. Allowed for quite a bit of storage on top of the dressers that are under the bed which was great…son put his printer on top of one dresser. Saw another room, also in IV, that had the beds “lofted”–like a bunk bed–and the desk and dressers were underneath. Some rooms have the shorter (33") legs and some rooms had the longer “lofted” legs…you got what you got. From what I could tell, it looked like the room with the lofted beds was smaller so the lofting was a requirement…no room for the desk except to put it under the lofted bed…and it was set up like that prior to move in. Son and his roommate opted to rise their beds up to the 33" and did it without tools…just took a little muscle and instruction from the numerous student helpers available on move in day.

Just so you know, stetson east, stetson west, and speare do not have a lofting option (because the rooms themselves are tiny) but all other freshman dorms do!

thank you all, but now I’m confused. Heynow12 - are you saying that the rooms in the stetsons are or are not lofted? If the rooms are tiny,I’m thinking maybe they loft the beds so the desk can fit underneath the bed.

They are not lofted and you don’t have the ability to loft them. You can get risers, but that’s not very high. Stetson rooms are more narrow, so it’d be difficult to loft/deloft the beds all the time. Plus the furniture is older (not gross-old, though) so it’s not in the same easy-loftable style that most newer buildings have.

yes narrow would have been the better word to use. If you are are going to orientation soon, you will see what i mean

thank you both. A few more questions, if you don’t mind. Does anyone know if there are doors on the closets? I’m hoping we can use one of those over the door organizers. And what about the lighting? Do you know if the kids use floor/desk lamps?

No doors on closets, lighting isn’t that great. You should bring a desk lamp (you won’t have room for a full sized floor lamp).
