London School of Economics

My son is interested in attending summer school here. Does anyone have any first hand info? Also he wants to extend his trip by backpacking thru Europe and staying at youth hostels. He would go with two friends. Any tips on backpacking and hostels?

There is a thread about applying to LSE (for regualr admission, not summer school) in the international students forum, linked above.

Also try www. the student room .co .uk

remove the spaces. For some reason links to that site are blocked, but it is a UK forum very much like this one (though they probably won't know much about summer schools specifically there. UK students don't go to summer schools. They are a way for the colleges to make money by hiring out their campus to private education companies/overseas universities. It's unlikely that any summer school will be taught by LSE staff. They'll be on vacation).

I also have the impression that LSE summer programs are more or less "for show". (No real connection to the real LSE.) Sort of like a the Oxford programs for high schoolers. Take their money and run!

(And I do have some LSE knowledge, due to sibling and spouse who did graduate work there.)
