Just to clear up a bit of confusion about the London program... Every acceptance letter has a little paragraph about the enclosure of information about the fall semester in London. If you/your son/daughter is interested in going, you're supposed to contact the person that they tell you to. There are only 36 open spots (the letter seemed to suggest it was a first-come-first-serve sort of thing?) rather than only 36 being picked to spend that semester abroad. This is the info I gathered from having a quick opportunity to take a peek at the admit letter.

No, you are incorrect about the London group. The 36 were hand picked by Skidmore to go. Son's acceptance letter was contingent upon him going to London to start his Skidmore education. They represented a diverse group that Skidmore felt would enjoy and do well starting their college career in London. I am in an awkward position now of knowing that these 36 were handpicked by the college and that my son was one of the ones chosen. He is still very nervous, confused and excited about London. I now call this group the "London 36". I really hope he chooses Skidmore!

I agree with Jollymon's understanding of the acceptance. I spoke to the admissions department and they pretty much stated the same things Jollymon said. To quote my other reply, "Skidmore was very appealing to my daughter, but we were a little surprised ...excited...shocked...confused...happy...and curious when the London acceptance came. That being said, I could see why they picked my D. she just came back from South America, and is very mature and focused in her studies and art. My concern and question is what the Science Department like? The trip over to London is focused on English and Music, which are general education requirements, but she wouldn't be able to take a science course initially. For an economics major and most other areas of study this experience would be great! However, I am not sure London would be the place my daughter would choose to study abroad. Would she like it...absolutely...it's just difficult when you (the student) did not make the decision to go. Please know we all still think it is pretty darn exciting! We will try to make the April 14th Open House, if we can, too."

Just another quick thought, maybe the slots open up if any of the initial "London 36" decline. I can see that this group probably will come together quite nicely and like one person even mentioned possibly even travel together during break. My daughter is very excited to visit the campus and meet other students and see their science program.

Wow....I"m really sorry you guys, I must've really not been thinking (believe me when I say it's been a long week). It totally makes sense that that paragraph would be in reference to open spots left by those who choose to start at Skidmore in January as opposed to going to London. Really sorry for the confusion, and I'll probably delete this thread out of embarassment haha.

Skidmore more than outdid itself at the accepted candidates day. I was most impressed with everything about the day, including an incredible lecture, meeting very helpful students and again eating in the best college cafeteria. My wife who had never been absolutely loved Skidmore and told my son he would be crazy not to go there. I think he is still hesitant about starting in London but talked to some former London Students who answered many of his questions. He has narrowed down his college list to two colleges and plans to make a decision this week. We talked until almost 1:00 last night about his choices. He was exhausted, excited, confused and nervous. I think I am taking him golfing today to give his mind a rest. I am very interested in what the other "London 36" thought and what their kids are doing. No matter what he does, I am so proud of him my heart could burst. The last thing he said last night was that if he picks Skidmore, "could we bring the acceptance package up in person?" That's my boy!

And the decision: (drum roll please) - Skidmore in London! We are all so happy today! I am the happiest dad on the planet!

Has anyone else decided to go to London? This Thread quieted down as decisions are being made. Anyone else going?

I am definitely going. Don't know if your son does the face book thing, but there is a group called "Skidmore London Freshman C/O 2012" there where people are slowly trickling in. There are a few guys on there if your son wants to get in touch with them.

My friend is going to London. I'll tell her about the group. The accepted student day sold her.

Thanks - Already passed on the info to my son regarding facebook and Skidmore.

Did anyone else send in their class request forms yet?

My top 3 choices are:
Theatre in London: An Introduction
British Art and Architecture: 1700-1900
Literature and Place

and I'm hoping for the "Laughter, Humor, and Comedy" Seminar

I tried to pick classes that I thought looked interesting, and were different from classes that I'd taken before.

Haven't gotten anything yet. Did it come in the mail?

Yeah, about a week after I sent in my deposit. Doesn't sound like everyone has gotten it yet though, someone else I've been talking to hasn't gotten hers yet either.

Ok thanks, we will be watching our mail. Did you do the facebook thing? Just in case you were wondering, my son is the one celebrating a basketball win jumping into the arms of one of his best friends. Thanks for your help!
