As the mom of an older midshipman, I am excited for my son and his classmates as they wear their new class rings this coming weekend. I was told he got his today, it fits, and won't be worn again till the big moment. Of course, I have already warned him about NOT wearing the prize when sailing! Couldn't help it. MOM mode kicked in...Congratulations to all the First Classmen/women! You've earned that ring!

I know a guy who lost his ring finger by merely jumping up to catch a bar on a stair landing he was trying to get up on. The force of his weight resisting on the ringed finger caused a complete dislocation and and functional amputation of the finger.

So yes indeed wearing a ring can be a safety risk if one is hanking on lines and so forth.

Some of the parents (including me) were getting to see Class of 2007 rings for the first time this weekend. Thank you for sharing! The rings were big, gold, beautiful and impressive. Congratulations to First Class Midshipmen on this important milestone!

atlsmith....I am so jealous! Had things gone as planned, we would have seen the rings this weekend as well. BUT, my son is in Newport, RI, at the NY Yacht Club, preparing to race in the ROLEX FARR 40 on Sept 6-9. We scrambled and got our hotel reservations changed to October, but part of me was at KP this weekend. Here's hoping this board is flooded with stories this week. Can't wait!
