" Look after my men."

1st Lt. Kevin Joseph Smith, 28, Class of 2002 was killed by a roadside bomb in eastern Baghdad on December 8th. His last words were, "Look after my men."

The Long Grey Line continues to include selfless leaders such as Lt. Smith whose dedication to country allow us to maintain our freedom.

This selflessness extends to his mother, Joann Smith, who said:"Pray for Kevin's men who are left in Iraq, and thank God for loaning us Kevin for 28 years."

For candidates considering West Point, a comment by Lt. Smith's father is telling.
* Kevin Smith attended Lynn University in Boca Raton for one year on a soccer scholarship, then abruptly changed course and decided to go to West Point. When he returned home after graduating from West Point in 2002, he was different. The quiet teen had become a man of conviction. "He totally turned inside out," his father said.*

My gratitude and prayers go out to his family and friends - and his men still in Iraq.

His eulogy page can be found here: <a href="http://www.west-point.org/users/usma2002/59468/%5B/url%5D">http://www.west-point.org/users/usma2002/59468/</a></p>

aspen, this is so very sad. I admire all of these officers and soldiers who are such heroes. Lt. Smith certainly embodies all that our children are learning.
