Hey everyone, thanks for giving my thread a read!

My question is what colleges look at their prospective students "holistically" and look at the student as a whole? I am essentially asking what "good" schools could I get into given my stats?

GPA: 3.1
ACT: 31

Can someone give me some colleges that would over look a low overall GPA (Uptrending) and focus more on other criteria when admitting students.

If the school meets these basic criteria I will more than likely be interested:
Undergrad Enrollment: 1,000-8,000
Grad Enrollment: Signifigantly fewer than undergrad enrollment
Area: Urban or Suburban
Satates: East of the Mississippi

Thank you all in advance for giving me your help.

PS- I am a male Hispanic and live in Illinois and will Dble Major in History and Economics.

When I saw your GPA thought of some of the Colleges That Change Lives. Wabash College and Kalamazoo jumped into my head off the bat, and possibly College of Wooster. It would help to know how rigorous your classes have been, ECs, need for financial aid, etc.

Sorry about that I’ll go a little more in depth this time.

Freshman GPA: 2.0
Sophomore GPA: 3.5
Junior Year GPA: 3.9

My only EC is Speech Team which I did fairly well (placed at many competitions in my event).
I would have done more ECs but at my school you need a 3.0 GPA or higher to join which I now currently have as a senior…

I have (or will have taken) a total of 9 AP classes by the time I graduate and my current scores are all 4s

Do you participate in any community service? That would boost your chances at Kalamazoo. I suggest you look at both schools I mentioned. In Indiana, I am most familiar with the Indiana schools, so Wabash gets a big yes for your intended major, as well as DePauw and Hanover. Congratulations on turning your grades around. Work especially hard on your essay and make a point to interview at schools that you like. You will be able to talk about how you worked to improve your grades, the struggle, etc.

Haha thanks, though I feel writing a good essay is easier said than done!

I have about 60 hours of CS

I havwe been helping a few rising seniors with their college searches, adn I know what you mean! Use the tips on CC as a reference. I don’t remember where I read it, but to me a great essay would be one that I could pick up from a crowded hallway and know its author without looking at the name. Open up your heart to the process.

On a related note, the Colleges that Change Lives tour is coming through in September. You mentioned IL, so check out the Chicago, St. Louis or Indianapolis dates depending on your location.

Yeah, as for the essay I have a few ideas buy getting what I want to say onto paper is indifferent thing entirely! =] Oh well, gotta love a challenge.

I’ll look into that “Colleges that Change Lives” when it comes to Chicago. I am a short trip from downtown Chicago.

Also, someone mentioned money, money is not a problem as my parents can pay up to 30k a year for college.

I am also a first generation student if that changes anything!
