looking for a hand

well lets start off by listing some basic stats
-17 Years Old
-Bilingual Dogwood Diploma (HS Marks: Pretty bad but I had been living in a pretty abusive home so that had something to do with my marks)
-90% avg at Vancouver Community College (Physics 12, Chemistry 12, Math 12)
-2350 SAT score
-Afro-Canadian
-First Gen Canadian - First on family to try to get into Post Secondary
-I believe I'm a capable of playing D1 basketball and email the coach at Cornell and he invited me to a camp this summer and asked me to send him some game tape.

Okay so I haven't really done well in HS partly due to the fact that it's pretty hard getting anything done let alone focusing on doing superb while in fear of being savagely beaten by your own parents on a daily basis. Managed to get out of HS with a biling diploma and C+/B average. Moved out into a friends basement and started trying to put the past behind me, its been 3 and a half months and my averages have jumped into the 90's (A+ according to their scale) in all my classes at Vancouver Comm. College. Took the SAT last month with a 2350 and am trying to turn my life around for the better which is what brings me here.

Is there any chance at me getting into any of the Ivie's and what can I do to help bolster my application? I really think at a school as beautiful and prestigeous as a Harvard or a Cornell, I will be able to reach my full academic and athletic(but that's another forum) potential.

This is where you guys come in. With all that being said, I believe I can get in, I just need some giudence. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks again.

Jimmy - Your story is compelling and your turn-around in performance is very impressive. Harvard does not accept transfers any more, so if community college in Canada means the same as in the States, it wouldn’t be possible to enter Harvard as a transfer. I know that you can’t transfer into Princeton either, but I’m not aware of any transfer restrictions at the other Ivies. Cornell beat Alabama in basketball the other night - they’re pretty competitive!
