Looking for a Math Book that offers clear and Detailed Explanations

Hi guys!
I'm am trying to overcome my Math deficiency for the SAT. I can not emphasize enough that I would like books that have clear and detailed explanations. Any suggestions , shortcuts , and advice are also very appreciated!

Thanks in advance for you responses!

Sorry, for the annoying bump post , but I really would like a recommendation.

The only math prep book I ever got was Dr. Chungs. If you want detailed explanations, don’t bother wit this one.

I like the SAT Math Bible from Powerscore, not Nova. I also liked Rocket Review, but it’s out of print.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll definitely look into them today. I had the Nova Sat Math Bible. It was relatively easy to understand but some explanations, even in the examples , were nightmares!

Powerscore has one with the same name, which is why I think the Nova one is out of print (except for online).

Although the blue book is touted almost too much on these forums, I hope you realize that you can register your copy online at the collegeboard’s website to access detailed explanations for each problem?

I’m blacking out regarding where exactly you go, but yeah, all the explanations are online… (you register that book’s key number or something to your CB account and login to get some specifics)

^actually registration is a random question about a specific line in the textbook. I was asked for the #th word of the title on page ###.

try grubers book, I forgot exactly what it was called, but type in grubers sat and math in on google, xiggi said it was the best SAT math book to use a resource

By combining the use of “The Official SAT Study Guide” (also known as “The Blue Book”) with the free video tutorials at Khan Academy ([Khan Academy](http://www.khanacademy.org)), you can learn how to do every one of the math section exam questions by watching Khan work the problems. He uses an older generation guidebook, but they’re still available for sale on Amazon and eBay. However, if you have the new Blue Book, six of the exams in it are identical to exams in the old book, but not necessarily in the same test number order.

For example:

Old New
Book Book

Test 2 = Test 4
Test 3 = Test 5
Test 4 = Test 6
Test 5 = Test 7
Test 6 = Test 8
Test 7 = Test 9
Test 8 = Test 10

I am not a big fan of the blue book solutions provided by the college board. They are certainly correct solutions, but there are times when a problem is vulnerable to a less traditional approach.

One of my favorite websites for solutions is the one you are on right now! But use the search tool, or google your question. Every day, people post new threads for questions that have been analyzed here before, multiple times with multiple approaches. Prefer algebra? Someone will have solved it that way. Looking for the flash of insight that avoids the algebra? Or the long, slog-it-out grind? You’ll find those here too.

For detailed explanations, you should try The 32 Most Effective SAT Math Strategies by Steve Warner.

It breaks problems down into specific types that can be solved in a certain way.

It also gives very detailed step-by-step solution explanations that are really useful especially if you don’t initially understand a particular problem.

Oh by the way, I don’t like Dr Chungs book either…

You can also use the detailed video explanations(public) to all of the official SAT math questions(1600 videos, 27 Practice Tests) that I created last month. Google my screen name.

Cheers.

you should use i need a pencil.com,it has a bunch of math SAT lessons and questions and it also has 2 full SAT tests, its a real great site, good luck

I never got the chance to buy the book but pwnthesat has some really good stuff on the site.

I am combining PWN and 32 Most Effective. So far so good.

A few day ago, I just got my copy of 320 SAT Math Problems arranged by Topic and Difficulty Level.

Looks like good stuff.

It’s title says it all - let’s me focus on harder number theory questions and algebra questions, which I often can have issues with…
