Hello,
I'm a lower middle class white male.
My gpa is 3.68 rising uw
My act is 29 writing 6 ):
My class rank is 75/280 though I transferred schools twice.
5 AP scores: a 3, three 4's, and a 5.
Current schedule is weak (AP Lit and College algebra the toughest) because I ran out of classes to take
EC's 2 varsity sports (not all that great. I had lung problems junior year and only now started recovering). 2 JV sports. Eagle scout/senior patrol leader. President of church youth group. running club co pres. Worked periodically.
Awards: Ap scholar with distinction and a few school level awards

I'm hoping someone can be brutally honest in focusing my college search into some schools that are more matches, low matches, or low reaches based off my stats. I'm looking more for private schools, but if a public school has good out of state tuition and/or aid.

Im leaning towards either a degree in Engineering (preferably energy or environmental) or environmental science(not studies).

I'd prefer to stay out west, but would consider eastern states with mountains. I'm into outdoor activities like hiking, climbing, and trail running so that is the main reason for locational preferences .

Any calc or pre-calc? You’ll probably need those for to be seriously considered for engineering, but there’s not a lot you can do if your school doesn’t offer them, other than try to pick it up at a CC, though it sounds like you’re a senior and it might be a little late for that.

I’m guessing your parents income will qualify you for a bunch of aid at private schools you can get in. Your stats aren’t bad, and if you’re from a low-income school, and possibly first in family to go to college, there might be some better schools out there looking to pick someone like you up.

There are more mountains out East than you think, though they’re not like the Western mountains.

For most schools that will provide a lot of aid (private), your deadline is going to be Jan. 1, so you’re going to need to look really, really quickly. You are definitely behind the curve.

Out East, you might try U of Rochester, RIT, WPI, Gettysburg College, College of the Atlantic, Elon, or CMU
Out West, Santa Clara, Whitworth, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, and UC-Irvine (if a California resident).

Not saying they’re great ideas, but a quick trip to the College Search function kind of makes them pop out and gives you an idea of what’s possible. You’ll need to sort through and reduce the list before anyone can give you much more advice.

alright thanks for the advice. I always seem to shoot a little high when I use the searches or have trouble finding what I want. Its just nice to hear other perspectives and see if you find something interesting I missed. those eastern colleges help, I know the western ones better.

I second looking at U Rochester, RIT, Northeastern, WPI, also Stevens and RPI, plus Clarkson, Union, Bradley, Gettysburg, Lafayette, Rose Hulman, Alfred, Butler, Tulsa, Case Western Reserve.
