Yes, he qualifies for the Zell Miller scholarship, which covers full tuition at any GA public college. However, it does not cover fees, room, board, books, or other expenses, which adds up to quite a large sum. It seems that we earn too much to qualify for a Pell grant, but too little to be able to afford the out of pocket expenses they expect us to pay. Of course, if he earned an Honors scholarship, that would be a full ride, which would be amazing…but I’m guessing that’s a long shot since his stats are on the low side for the Honors program.
Very interesting article about Colorado College…wow! Thanks for sharing.
Zell requires both high GPA and test scores. It covers tuition only, but not fees, books, room and board, or anything else. So it’s a good deal for tuition only, but depending on your income level, a GA state college could still end up costing more than a private college with better financial aid.
Also the numbers are skewed by Colorado residents, who pay ‘no more’ in tuition than they would at CU (they pay all the other stuff like fees, insurance, R&B. Tuition is high at CU, but the CC Colorado student is paying about $13k (at most) in tuition while the OOS student is paying $61k.
Those averages can be tricky.
CC also has a fair number of Questbridge scholars as well.
That said, from students we know who have attended, there’s a lot of wealth represented on that campus.
