Hi there! I'm posting on behalf of one of my close friends.

My friend is a very unique individual. She loves the outdoors: hiking, skiing, swimming. If any schools coordinated hiking/camping trips, that would be right up her alley. Not a city person at all. She is asthmatc and is really bothered by air pollution. She loves participating in Christian youth group activities like retreats and what not. Very into community service. Doesn't want a huge college. She wants to study psychology.

Any suggestions of schools that would cater to her?

She is bright as well...scored a 31 on her ACT. I don't know her GPA, but I'm sure it's respectable.

Hmm...how about Bates? It's in a relatively small town, and I hear that day trips and outdoor excursions are really popular. Community service is too.

Or Middlebury. It's in a tiny farm town, and they have their own ski resort on campus.

Cornell, maybe? Ithaca is cute, scenic town, with great nature (think gorges on campus).

check out the dartmouth forum

Bates really would be a great option for her.

Bates and Dartmouth are great schools but your friend had better be a great student.

Union College has an Outing Club that does hiking, camping, etc. So does UVM.

What area of the country is she interested in? What major?

Anything in New England and the Middle States would be great. I'll definitely recommend Bates and Union.

She wants to major in psychology or something in the humanities.

Check out UVM, it has 7000 kids so it's not really huge. They have an active Outing Club as well, I think.

Hamilton in NY sends its incoming freshman on a pre-orientation hike in the Adirondacks. Colby also has nature-oriented pre-freshmen pre-orientations. Again, those schools are about as selective as Bates - which is to say, very selective.

i seriously think Midd might be for her. i haven't started yet, but my first thing there is a backpacking orienation trip. and they have other outdoor programs. i mean you can take Back Country Navigation as a PE course.
from what it looks like we also have plenty of volunteer opportunities.
though with a 31 on the ACT, Midd's not a guarantee, but the same score got me in. good luck!
