Looking for FAFSA only schools strong in math and science

Take a look at Stevens Institute of Technology.

[Stevens Institute of Technology: Hoboken, New Jersey, USA](http://www.stevens.edu/sit/)

Definitely give the UC’s another look. I know a kid who got a combination of scholarships to UCLA this year plus a Cal Grant, leaving him with less than $10,000 per year out of pocket. Be sure to apply for the Cal Grant in any case, as you can use it at any college in California.

Your son would be a good candidate for a Regent’s scholarship, especially at Davis or Santa Barbara. In addition to the scholarship money there are lots of other perks - priority enrollment for classes, better dorm accommodations, etc. A friend of my son’s turned down several elite universities to go to UCLA as a Regent’s Scholar, in part because he got a single room as a freshman and - wait for it - a parking permit! The parking permit was the icing on the cake.

I have no idea what its math and science programs are like, but I believe Whitman does not consider home equity.

ETA, I just checked the college’s website and was correct about that. See [Financial Aid](http://www.whitman.edu/content/catalog/financial-aid) “The college does not take home equity into account in analyzing family assets for determining need.”
