By the time I complete my transferable coursework, I’ll likely be looking at a 3.6, hopefully 3.7 in bus admin (marketing).
Schools I know I’ll apply to are UC Irvine, SDSU, LBSU (reaches), CSUF, CSUN (???) and SJSU. Any suggestions for guarantees that are good in business?
your local CSU is the 'safe; choice.
If you really have a 3.6+ you should be competitive at all the CSUs except CP SLO. You also might want to add UCR - they have a solid program and still accept TAG applicants.
Chico and Fullerton both have good biz programs and are worth a look.
Sacramento has a solid business program as well.
You have a good list of schools but being local will make a difference at SDSU and CSULB due to transfer priority. You are a qualified and competitive applicant so apply widely and the best of luck.
Thanks for the suggestion but I live in the Sacramento area and want to leave if you can understand. I agree Sac State is a good school and have looked into it but I will not be applying.
What do you guys think about CSU San Bernardino?
it is a fine school, especially if you plan to live/work in the area post graduation. It isn’t one you hear people clamoring over and most people commute so, if you are looking for the classic college experience - I’d look elsewhere.
Anyone have any insight into fresno’s business program?
You should definitely apply to CPSLO, SDSU, CSULB and UCI because you are a well qualified applicant - just have something like a UCR TAG or an ap into Chico and Fullerton just to hedge your bet. Other than TAG, transfer admissions are really tough to predict. Be sure have lots of lines in the water. Don’t worry too much about what’s’ best’ right now. See where you get in - then make your call.
Fresno has become a deceptively selective campus in the last couple of years. They have a solid biz program, especially if you plan to focus on the Ag side of the biz world. They have D1 sports and more students live nearby but, it is still a commuter campus. Like Sac and SJSU in that way.
Sonoma is very residential and has a decent Biz program - they offer a concentration in Wine Business which is pretty innovative and is certainly worth a look.
@NCalRent That’s good to hear. I honestly thought those schools were too selective for a 3.6 transfer GPA, epecially in business.

UCR’s TAG threshold for business is 3.5 - as long as you take the classes and follow the process EXACTLY, you will be admitted.
A non-local applicant for CPSLO or SDSU with a 3.6 could break either way. My guess is Long Beach will accept you and UCI won’t - but, I don’t read their aps - so you should apply anyhow.
Be sure to also apply down the stack - Sac and SF are good safety targets.
@NCalRent Appreciate this analysis. I think instead of wasting app money at UCI, as a backup I could TAG to UCSB with a double major in econ/comms and get a certificate in marketing at their extension.
