Looking for "Safeties" Chance Me! and Do I Have a Shot at a few Ivy's?

Hey! So I'll be in the Class of 2010, and I need help looking for safeties. My dream schools are actually not American, I want to apply to... Imperial College of London, Oxford University, and University of Cambridge ( i know I know, ambitious and definitely reaches). But out of curiosity, could I probably gain admittance to a few Ivy League schools? What could be considered my American "safeties?"

You have very impressive stats. Overall, I would say you’re qualified for a majority of the Ivies. Also, a lot of your ecs/awards/programs would diffrentiate you from the other 25,000 applicants with the same numbers as you. Everything you have done outside of school is extremely impressive and will help you tremendously during application season. I would say apply to Ivies but leave yourself open for some safety schools as well. Good luck =]

Your statistics are exceptional! Your GPA is as perfect as it can be, and you also have a high weighted GPA. Your class rank is also decent, along with your ecs. Do you plan on taking the SATs? I agree with the poster above in that you should apply to Ivies but with an open mind. Ivies are unpredictable so it’s best to have safeties as well. Overall though, I would say you are a strong applicant. Good luck!

You have a shot at the Ivys but it’s by no means a guarantee of acceptance to any of them.

Oh ahah weird, thank you!
I asked a few of my friends and they said that I’m like average
so this is pretty refreshing to hear from!
I don’t really know… I’ve gotten the impression from other people on here that the Ivies are pretentious ( and I dont’ know if I can survive that).
Do any of you guys know good neuroscience programs? That’s my hugest passion right now

You have INSANE stat my man. Harvard will be the one to pay just to study at their school.

haha thanks. I hope these qualify for the UK schools I want to go to…
I’ve been surfing their websites, and so far, it looks like the APs are the most important…
out of curiosity, shoudl I retake calc BC though? and what American schools have brilliant Neuroscience Undergraduate Programs?

I feel so stupid all of a sudden :frowning:

I think you’re a Crimson…

Relax dude your a lock for any school you apply for. Unless you bomb the essay.

Oh! speaking of the essay… how do you make it sound like you? Should I just write journal entry style, like first person?

Really? Are we talking about the same Harvard? I have not seen them get too excited about a 32 ACT and mid 700 SATIIs, but maybe you guys know something I don’t.

I’m also assuming we have an ORM (asian) from an overrepresented place (LA).

The ECs are good, not great and the paid for summer programs are never a favorite.

So in my book, every ivy is a reach. With a 34 the lower ivies will look more possible.

Also note, you can not apply to both Oxford and Cambridge.

hmom5, I’ve heard that about the Oxford and Cambridge situation before…
I’m confused about this myself. A girl who transferred from the UK to the States told me that she couldn’t apply to both because she’s a UK citizen, but told me that I could apply to both. You probably know more than me since you’ve had children who applied there. Does this mean that a US student cannot apply to both?

It’s true that you can only apply to either Cambridge or Oxford…not both.

Look through this site: [url=http://www.ucas.ac.uk/]UCAS Homepage/url

Also realize that Oxbridge take very few Americans. The last figures posted by Cambridge (that are likely a couple years old) listed six Americans admitted.

GPA is excellent. Your EC’s are good. Your standardized tests are not the greatest however.

Bring up those standardized tests are you will increase your chances substantially. You are already an excellent candidate - but you have some room to improve.

Well, you seem to have rather impressive stats, but you know, i wouldn’t hold out for the ivies. you haven’t quite reached new levels of intensity yet, but you never know. hehe i kid, i’m sure you’ll do absolutely fantasticly and get into most of the schools, if not all, you applied to. now do fantastically on your ap prob stat test you have in an 2 hours!

You’ve definitely got a good shot.

hmmm. i’d say this is a bit much… because for many of the ivies they admit a smattering of candidates that might be nonsensical. however, you definitely have a GREAT CHANCE due to your INITIATION OF INTEREST by taking college courses…

good luck!

AHH!!!

Thanks for responding, I’m like totally on Cloud Nine. I just got accepted to University of Cambridge last week, and totally wasn’t expecting it. The interview process felt awful, I honestly felt like $hi**, but somehow I made it!! Ahhh…
I’ll be studying at Trinity College, with a focus on Natural Sciences (Biology).

definite ivy material
