I am currently looking for an up-to-date test book that will cover all 3 areas on the Test. My friend has the Barron's SAT I prep (2005), which (like always), covers the Math section too extensively. I'm not quite sure on how good Barron's is in dealing with the Reading/Writing sections, though. I've also looked into the Official SAT Study Guide by Collegeboard, but have I heard that its questions are too simplistic and unlike those that would be on the real test. Does anyone have any advice on choosing the right book? What about Kaplan or Princeton Review's books?

The Official SAT Study Guide by Collegeboard is the only book with REAL SAT questions. Don't be fooled by other test prep companies such as Kaplan, PR, Barrons or other ones you might have heard of. Get questions from the MAKERS of these tests, not some bootlegged company who tries to mirror the difficulty level.

So then the Qs in the SAT Study Guide are close to the difficulty levels of the real test?

Yes. They are the closest possible. The book is made BY the college board. The difficulty levels are correct.
