I'm going to be auditioning for schools this fall, and I'm a bit concerned about my dance ability being an issue into getting in at some of these schools. I am a great singer, and a pretty good actor, but as far as dance goes, I have very little formal training. Basically I haven't had an actual dance class in 4 years, though I've had to 'dance' in quite a few shows. I can move, though, and can at least pick up routines quickly, just not with the precision that someone who has been dancing for 10 years could! Can anyone recommend schools that will build up this weak area after acceptance and aren't looking for triple threats right off the bat? Thanks!

OCU does not have a dance portion to the audition, there is dance leveling at the first of the semester, at which time, you are placed in the appropriate classes. In the MT program they tend to favor good voices at the auditions. Good Luck!

Syracuse is quite dance-intensive, but they will make allowances for a lack of training if you are male and can move well.

Emerson’s dance audition is not at all demanding. If you can move well and pick up a routine (and Emerson’s are not challenging), you should be fine.

Marymount Manhattan has a really simple dance call. It was literally 15 seconds long and very easy.
