Hi, just finished my junior year and I’m looking for colleges. I already know I am applying to Boston University and North Eastern University. I love the Boston area but I’m open to schools all over New England. I don’t want to got to a small school. Honestly schools similar to BU and NU are going to interest me. I’m going into Computer Science, possibly with a minor in something, not sure yet. I have a thread with all my info on it. (Admissions stuff) I need some suggestions for schools that I will most likely get into but are still a good fit. BU and NU are a little bit of a reach so I need some schools to fall back on. List a few and add some reasoning. THANKS A TON!
What are your stats? What is your financial situation? At least put a link to your stats thread.
What exactly is it that you like about BU and Northeastern? Do you want an urban school? Are you looking for merit aid?
Also 1) try the supermatch function to the left and 2) get your hands on some college guide books (ex. Fiske, Princeton Review) at the library etc. and start reading.
If you’re not open to small schools or any colleges outside New England, then your best choices (aside from NEU and BU) may be the New England state flagships (including UConn, UVt, and UMass). That’s assuming you can afford what may be an out-of-state public college that doesn’t award much aid to non-residents.
If you’re willing to consider colleges in the mid-Atlantic states, then your possibilities might include Villanova, George Washington, or various public schools in those states (UMCP, UMBC, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Delaware, Rutgers, the SUNYs, etc.) Again, that’s assuming you can afford whatever their net prices are likely to be in your case.
NYU is a bit more selective than BU or NEU, but seems to have a strong CS department. You might also want to consider Rensselaer, Syracuse, or Drexel.
Run the online net price calculators for any school that interests you (if cost is a concern, as it is for most families).
