Looking for summer internship - worth going to career fair?

I'm an engineering student without any prior job experience. I'd like to go to the fair but I have a ton going on this week. Is it worth my time for me to go to the career fair and handout resumes or should I just apply online? Like I said, I don't have any prior work experience so I don't really think I'm going to woo any of the representatives with anything. Is there any advantage in handing a resume in person rather than submitting it online?

Absolutely! GO! Tons of companies heavily recruit UF engineers, and as long as you have a decent GPA, can play up leadership experience, and can talk about experiences you’ve had in a team, you can get one. I know several companies like to get students before they get tons of experience so they can mold them into the employee they want. P&G does this, for example. Good luck!

DO IT, seriously. Huge mistake is a lot of people think they won’t get an internship or job so they don’t bother going. Just GO ANYWAYS. It’ll benefit you.

If you’re still exploring you can ask different people about their jobs and ask what they would suggest you do to build resume. If you’re a junior/senior ready to get a job you can stand out by being prepared and having some knowledge about the company/industry. Some companies are just sending you to the website and unless you’re really prepared to stand out it’s fairly pointless to go to those booths to get a job. Sometimes they ask you 1 or 2 interview question/make one comment on something on your resume and give you a chance to elaborate.

I am looking for actuarial summer internship. There were no actuaries there but I still felt there was some benefit to floating my resume into the big 4 and a couple insurance companies, and exploring a couple claims rep/sales positions as a possible fallback. I’d imagine it would be much much better as an engineering student.
