I'm currently attending the University of Missisissippi. I'm thinking about transferring. I want to sing contemporary music. I want to go in vocal performance, songwriting, piano, and recording music. Any suggestions?!

Ones that aren’t ridiculously expensive.

Belmont comes to mind but so does the price!

Thanks! Does Belmont have all of those programs I listed?

Yes, Belmont certainly has vocal performance, songwriting, piano, and audio technology (i.e. recording). The songwriting and audio technology programs are offered through Belmont’s Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business, which is recognized as one of the top music business schools in the US. The focus is on contemporary/commercial music.

Wow I’m definitely going to look into that. Thanks so much!

As hawkrn suggests, Belmont comes with a price, so check that before getting too committed to the idea of Belmont.

Yes I will. Is it higher than Berklee?

No, Belmont’s tuition is just under $24 000 per year and I think Berklee’s is about $34 000. As well, I think that the cost of living is considerably lower in Nashville than in Boston. As well, I suspect that Belmont has more financial and merit aid than Berklee. However, a Belmont degree is not cheap compared to most public universities.

That’s what I thought. I was looking at McNally School of Music. Do you know anything about their program?

Please don’t discount Berklee because of financial aid. D has a friend there this year, freshman, on full financial aid.

Berklee was the first place I applied. I haven’t applied anywhere else yet. I’m trying to see which one fits me the best.
