I am currently enrolled in Austin Community College, but will be expecting to transfer soon to a 4-year institution. I haven'd decided where I want to go, but I am looking for some advice that can help me find the right school, or even some suggestions for a school I may be interested in. My studies are focused on music (A.A. music), but I'm also interested in other subjects, like Astronomy and Literature. I'm interested in colleges/universities that emphasis a liberal arts education, and offer an array of course options. Particularly, a college like Wesleyan University would be my first choice, but I may not be up to par with an academically elite college like that. What makes Wesleyan interesting to me is both the liberal student body and studies (and a little bit of the scenery too that comes with the beautiful country side). I'm not really interested in music conservatories, like Oberlin or Rice, so you don't have to mention those, but any liberal (education wise, and possible politically too) college/university that could match a school like Wesleyan or Vasser, though lighter academically will be of interest. A couple schools I've considered so far include Reed College, Beloit College, Fort Lewis College, Carleton College, Grinnell College, and Hampshire College.
Thanks!

Hampshire has wonderful music options but the campus is very, very alternative. My D loves the curriculum/educational model (e.g. create your own major) but it is not for everyone.

Since you’ve already looked in the Pacific Northwest, take a look at Whitman College, a great LAC. I consider it a hidden gem because it is such a good school and gets very little recognition on CC. Here are some of its attributes: rigorous academics; gorgeous campus; lots of music opportunities; very active outdoor program; and a warm inclusive environment. These are its Princeton Review rankings compiled from student surveys from the top few hundred colleges and universities in the US:
