Looking to major in Computer Science

Hello,

I am 33 years old and wanting to begin my path in college (very late I know). I have done web development professionally roughly since I was about 21 for various jobs and companies. It has always been my passion as I started programming visual basic with AOL programs when I was about 10-11 years old and it all began from there eventually slowly moving into web development technologies and website building with PHP, HTML, etc but I would like to pursue a major in it and get some certification under my belt.

I currently live in Costa Rica and colleges here are not great so I’m looking mostly for an online option in the states and was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction or are currently taking courses online for Computer Science that could give some advice.

Also, honestly, I always kind of shoved college to the side and never really prepped for it at all in terms of understanding my options so as a general question I also wanted to ask what route should be taken when beginning the path between doing an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s , are both do-able starting fresh or is an AD needed before moving to a BD or can you jump right into a Bachelor’s?

I’ve read that you could essentially take an AD and then in the future transfer those credits into your BD if they allow it, so I’m just curious about the steps necessary in starting this journey on top of good Comp Sci programs online.

I appreciate your help and assistance

EDIT: I should add as well that I graduated High School with a G.E.D and have no further school experience outside of high school.

Thanks

You do not need an associate’s degree before you get a bachelor’s. Most people only obtain a bachelor’s. Like, I could go back to my community college and pick up three associate degrees but no one cares about associate degrees anymore. Honestly, bachelor degrees are a dime a dozen and are starting to become a minimum education requirement since so many people have them. Hell, master degrees are becoming more common to hold. I’m currently pursuing one.

Basically, just do some research online and look for the best online computer science bachelor’s degree you can afford and go from there. They’ll tell you what you need to do to graduate.
