Looming shortage of VFX artists...?

Here is an article saying that there is a looming shortage of vfx artists. Frankly, I don’t believe it. So many jobs are going overseas (China and India). Or, are they going overseas because of a shortage here? Are vfx-heavy films a current fad that will go away or will vfx become so good that they could produce what look like live-action movies with ALL vfx?

The main point of that article as I see it isn’t the lack of artists but how expensive and time consuming it is to produce visual effects. It’s still a business
The technology is just now coming of age to produce great visual effects more economically. I believe the appetite for vfx-heavy films will be greater than ever. People will always dream and envision more than is possible. It’s what keeps the world and industry going forward. There are films waiting to be made that don’t have the technology yet to have them made economically.
That said, a good story trumps vfx every time. You can overlook a dummy shark or dinosaur or odd super hero or a less than real battle field if the writing allows it. Vfx are for enhancement. Even Twister (which was great for its time but looks like a big wind machine now to many) still holds up because of the romantic story line.

@gouf78 - I think you are correct in all the points you made above. But I still worry - especially if things get a lot easier/cheaper to produce - that jobs will disappear overseas.

It can happen in just about any industry unfortunately. It will always be cheaper to produce anything with a cheaper labor market. Until more companies protect their own loyal employees with a quality standard (which has proven a good path to company success many times over) instead of going for the cheapest route I’m afraid that jobs will disappear overseas.
But when the pendulum swings–companies who value employees will have the most growth and attract the best in the business…
And the company that develops a proprietary VFX will be on top. It won’t be shipped overseas. The creativity can’t be shipped overseas.

I’ll throw your own words back at you from over the years! There are a LOT of facets to the movie industry,
VFX is probably just getting started in some ways as to what can be done. A lot of talent will be utilized.
I would look for a company that doesn’t work just on contract basis with resources to grow…
